Culture School

Picture Gallery School is a place where you can learn tea ceremony, ikebana (flower arrangement), calligraphy, and senchado (boiled tea) tea ceremony,Japanese style Picture Painting and Traditional Japanese dance,all part of traditional Japanese culture.
Currently, the School also offers classes in pen and wash drawing of landscapes, which focus on sketching nature outdoors.

Sogetsu Ikebana classes

The ikebana taught at this school is Sogetsu Ikebana, and classes are held on Tuesdays.
The instructor is experienced in teaching ikebana in English. Please come and try it.

  • Beginners start by learning the basic arrangement style, then proceed to applied flower arrangement.
  • Text 1. Introductory lessons 2. Expansion 3. Composition 4. Modification

Students with experience in ikebana will be given instruction appropriate to their experience.

Lecture day

Days of classes Tuesdays, four times a month (three times a month in July, August, December and January)
Morning class 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Afternoon class 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Evening class 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Admission fee \3,240, Monthly fee \6,588, plus actual cost of flowers. To be paid at the office of the School.

Urasenke tea ceremony classes,Calligraphy classes,Classes for pen and wash drawing of landscapes,Senchado (boiled tea ceremony) Hoenryu classes,Japanese style Picture Painting class,Traditional Japanese dance class
Tea ceremony taught at this school is that of Urasenke and classes are held from Tuesday to Friday.
Calligraphy classes are held on Wednesdays.
Classes for pen and wash drawing of landscapes are held on a six-month basis -- from April to September and from October to March, eight times each.
Senchado (boiled tea ceremony) taught at this school is that of Hoenryu, and classes are held on the second and forth Mondays of each month.
The Japanese picture painting classes are held once a month, on the last Thursday/Sunday of the month.
Traditional Japanese dance classes are held on the first and third Thursdays of the month.
Please note that all classes are taught in Japanese only.
